Hello world!

Bucerias, Nayarit, Mexico—

First blog, HELLO WORLD! It feels like this entry into a new electronic realm for me should be recording something momentous and profound. While this is a business blog site, this and future content will have a personal tone—it will be a log of ideas, reports, opinions, impressions, whims on a theme. So, getting back to momentous; since yesterday, I’ve been contentedly recollecting the 14th anniversary of what I label Victoria’s Independence Day. Incidentally, it is also the 24th anniversary of when my best friend’s husband (who is also now my best friend) proposed to her.

It was my exit from corporate life and having bosses and being caught up in the cogs of the corporate machine to being an independent consultant—a free agent. I exited door number 1 as a director of sales and marketing of the lovely Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver to lend my services to the greater world of the tourism industry in Vancouver, encompassing its wide swath of hotels, spas, food and beverage (ah, the wineries, the restaurants, the chefs) and destination marketing and public relations.

This departure from being a director of this or that was pivotal in my move, a few years later, to Mexico, where I reside today. I love my life (always have, in any incarnation) and my job (ditto) and since I’m a bona fide workaholic, they are often one and the same.

For the last five years I’ve been dedicated to real estate on this wonderful stretch of Pacific coast, just below the Tropic of Cancer some 20 degrees south of my former Canadian home. It has all the enchantment and the wonderful geographic diversity of British Columbia, but bumped into Latin territory, so life is now painted with a different language, piqued with a different culture and swaddled in a different climate.

So today, I enjoy the remnants of a full moon that might be causing even the female testosterone around here to be a little elevated, the tides are high and the humidity is rising as we head to the summer solstice of 2009.
